Ahoy, mateys! Shed yer land lubber ways and join the Yelp quest. We're going to plunder and pillage 'til we find us some fresh fish! And maybe even get some booty on the side.

No sea-faring soul worth their weight in sea salt is prepared to face the waves without first docking at 826 Valencia. 'Tis true: a peg leg, eye patch and a crushed velvet hat from the city's only pirate supply emporium had Fannie S suited up for adventure in no time. Anchor & Hope is a fitting place to launch, and Sage R appreciates its "charming vibe of sea shanty crab shack meets industrial chic." Meanwhile, Jack K found his sunken treasure at Swan Oyster Depot, where the "spirit of old time blue-collar jovial San Francisco (a la Herb Cain)" has lived for almost a century. Just be warned: no map will help you get past the long lines.

Stacy T likes to indulge at Farallon, where the crustacean sensations and sea fantasy-like interior -- complete with jellyfish chandeliers and an illuminated caviar staircase -- will make you believe in Atlantis. Bar Crudo has won over many an Ichthyophobe for serving seafood that's "sweet, salty, fresh and clean," according to Jaime M, while Libby L is a fan of the scene at Waterbar, where the view of the Bay is stunning and the drinks are strong enough for a sailor.

Locals like Jeff A know that Sotto Mare is a choice destination for those in search of the perfect cioppino, not to mention the feeling of "dining in the home of a slightly kooky, high charged and loving family." In the heart of the fog belt, Pacific Cafe never fails to please Liz R with its clam chowder, wedge cut french fries, sourdough bread and free wine while you wait. Yes, free wine while you wait!

To quench that open seas thirst, old Tenderloin dive the Gang Way isn't "too scurvy ferrr the likes of" Jim B. And if all else fails, the search for a big whale could end at Moby Dick. Just don't say that Ishmael sent you.

No mention of sushi? Never fear! The Sushi Issue is swimmin' your way next week...

Ceren E. on Aqua Forest Aquarium
"This is the most breathtaking aquarium habitat store I have ever seen. It focuses on the underwater planted habitat, which means you won't find saltwater corals or plastic divers and treasure chests here (thank goodness). Instead, you'll see amazing underwater landscapes that just seem impossibly…"

Nate F. on USS Pampanito
"It's a rare experience to be able to walk around inside a World War II era submarine.  If you get the chance to take the tour here and see the boat, it's definitely worth it.  Just taking in the environment and the history of the ship is overwhelming.

I've been on another submarine museum before,…"

kristy g. on Aquarium of the Bay
"This place is amazing....  The Aquarium has two HUGE crystal clear tunnels that you can see the fish swimming around.  The second tunnel is the best (this is where you can see the sharks).   You really become face-to-face with a diverse array of creatures (its like your swimming with them).

After the…"
