Mattress Discounters has a bunch of locations all over D.C. I think they are pretty normal brands and won't have any bedbugs. I recently got a mattress at Ikea and I love it. Both those places deliver. Those are just the places that jump out at me right now but maybe I can think of something else. My old roommate bought her mattress from Craigslist, and it worked out OK. But I know what you mean.

i, too, have just moved and am in need of furniture. i was leaning towards craigslist but was googling around about used mattresses (more as a guide to buying) and freaked myself out enough reading about bed bugs + etc (check out metafilter if you're curious).  i appreciated this (http://www.slate.com/i...) article on slate about buying a mattress, and am planning on getting mine from mattress warehouse (sleephappens.com). Two friends have recently purchased beds from there and have been happy (though there was a delivery problem with one that was remedied and she was refunded her delivery fee for the trouble). My friend spent $250 for a full bed (mattress only) including delivery.

well - i'm moving to LA soon and need to get rid of furniture that i just purchased last August.  Will be posting on craigs list as well, but haven't gotten to it yet.  Not selling my matress (i'm sorry, i can't imagine buying a used mattress much less selling one). Selling most of my things. Everything is for pick up only, I live in Falls Church a l'il  less than a mile from the East Falls Church Station.  

Bed frame +support - (headboard, side board, and footboard) made w/ real pine and got the cool laired supports. have someone interested in it already but looking to sell for $160 OBO
