Hey kids-
So, I'm coming into Austin for a weekend in late October. I've been lucky to have been selected to participate in the Lance Armstrong Foundation Summit...The Summit takes place at the Austin Convention Center (500 E Cesar Chavez St) Oct. 27-29.
The whole weekend is pretty planned out by the Foundation, but they leave Friday night up to us. I started using the LiveSTRONG message board to get a group of people together for Friday night...and the idea has caught on for a group of 15-30 of us. We're all strangers to each other (and most of us, like myself, are strangers to Austin).
We're looking for a place where we can easily gather together, lounge, have a cocktail, meet each other, and trade some stories. A place that serves apps would be nice too...somewhere that is somewhat close to the Convention Center would be the bomb.
It should be a fun place....upbeat....cool....but not a loud dance club.
I started the Skobee.com invite/discussion with the Molotov Lounge...only because I thought it looked cool....My Texas experience has been limited to Dallas/Plano....Yeah, I know...Austin's different.
Show this Boston-guy some Texas love...
I know ya'll can...
See...I said "ya'll" !!

Molotov is a great bar but probably a short taxi ride from the convention center. They have a great upstairs patio, however, I am not sure if they serve apps. A great patio spot is the Cedar Door with wonderful Mexican martinis if the weather is nice. It is right by the Convention Center. They have apps, but mostly fried bar food.
A great restaurant right by the Convention Center is Moonshine. It has mixed yelp reviews but I think it is inventive and a great atmosphere. It might be difficult to accomodate that many people unless you give them some advance notice.
Have so much fun in Austin. It is a great town and I miss it dearly!

Be sure to check out the funky South Congress area. Going to Guerros, I think, is a must. Also, they revamped 2nd street with Dallas-esque boutiques and shops.
Have fun!

Cedar door is walking distance, 2-3 blks from the convention ctr. great "mex." martinis (margaritas w/ a kick). fun apps too. they can accomodate alot of folks. I haven't been , but dona emilia's seems fun (s. american cuisine), more pricey though. there's also Rio Grande restaurant, though I'm not sure if there service has improved. that's where they filmed the REAL World ATX. Enjoy, or as they say down here "provecho".
