This isn't another talk thread meant to incite the usual "stay the hell away from Austin, you damn Californians" comments, but as a San Francisco resident who is planning to move to Austin within the next two years, I am curious about the job market in Austin, specifically the tech job market. Yeah, I know that Dell is based there, but the thought of working for a corporate behemoth like them makes me ill. Just curious if Austin is still a mecca for tech start-ups, and if so, what the salary range is like. It's possible I may just transfer with my current employer since I work remotely anyway, but want to keep my options open. Thanks in advance for any info!

Chris - Tech is a broad subject - any particular part of Tech ??
Also just a heads up when you look at salary here.
I turned down a job in L.A. for 3 times what I make here, because when I checked out what it would cost to replace home and lifestyle here it wouldn't come close.
Check indeed.com as job search site.
try looking at Fort Hood /Killeen- lots and lots of tech jobs with some large and small companies alike if you don't stress to much over living from contract to contract.
Many folks live in Austin, or north of Austin and make the drive for some pretty decent pay checks.
Austin still a tech haven -- yep
